Anti-Corruption Bureau figures show 1,931 investigations have been completed since the 2014-2015 financial year, but only 199 prosecutions have been completed, according to The Times Group. The Times Group reports ACB spokesperson Jacqueline Ngongonda said delays are driven by slow court processes, funding constraints, unwilling or unavailable witnesses, and frequent adjournments, and that some advanced cases have been discontinued by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In a separate case, the Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to suspended National Economic Empowerment Fund chief executive officer Humphreys Mdyetseni and Department of Irrigation engineer Anderson Mbozi, who are charged with abuse of office and money laundering, according to 247Malawi. 247Malawi reports the State alleges Mdyetseni laundered about K11 billion between April 2024 and 2025, and that the abuse-of-office charges include an alleged dismissal matter involving his personal assistant and the alleged purchase of two buildings valued at K1.6 billion each without following proper procurement procedures; the court ordered K1 million cash bonds, one K10 million surety each, property declarations of at least K80 million, surrender of travel documents, and fortnightly police reporting as bail conditions.
