The NASFEST International Youth Cultural Festival 2026 is currently underway in Malawi, bringing together cultural groups from across Africa, according to YONECO. Hosted by the National Youth Council of Malawi and the Department of Tourism, the festival is running under the theme "Moto wa Chikhalidwe: Create. Connect. Conserve". Following an opening launch at the Sunbird Livingstonia Beach Hotel in Salima, activities including live music, art exhibitions, and a street carnival are continuing in Lilongwe through May 3. The YONECO Cultural Troupe is headlining the national representation at the events.

In television news, three United States-based Malawians are competing to represent their home country on the third season of the American reality television series "Beast Games," Nation Online reports. Antonella Letchford, Liness Likhoozi, and Rianna are currently mobilising support, as they must secure votes exclusively from people based in Malawi to qualify for the show. The winner of the reality competition, which was created by YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, will receive a $5 million prize.

On the local music front, several artists closed out the month with new single releases. Music streaming platform Amati Zambiri reports that artists including Pop Young, Merchah, and Aidfest dropped new tracks on April 30, following releases from Chijaksy D and Onefra earlier in the week.
