Update: Malawi's Minister of Information, Communications and Technology, Dr. Shadric Namalomba, has called for the urgent implementation of the One Africa Network initiative to lower roaming and data costs across the continent. Speaking at the Connected Africa Summit 2026 in Nairobi, the Malawian delegation urged member states to establish a clear roadmap and timelines for the network, according to TechAfricaNews. The push aligns with Malawi's ongoing digital diplomacy efforts to secure affordable internet access alongside regional partners.

Update: The Southern African Development Community and the European Union have concluded a validation workshop for Malawi's Coordinated Border Management National Strategy in Lilongwe. The session, which wrapped up on April 29, was convened with the German agency GIZ and is part of the SADC Industrialisation Strategy aimed at improving regional trade, the SADC Secretariat reports. Malawian officials noted that the strategy will simplify border clearance procedures and help attract foreign direct investment by making cross-border transit more efficient.

In international aid developments, a new report has outlined gaps in Malawi's assistive technology sector. Released on April 30 by the UK-funded AT2030 programme, the research maps local repair pathways and financing barriers. According to the Global Disability Innovation Hub, the project was delivered in collaboration with the University of Malawi and the Malawi Paralympic Committee, and it explores how international sports broadcasting can shift public perceptions and improve technology access for disabled Malawians.
