Update: The Malawi under-20 women's national football team is finalizing preparations for its 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup qualifier against Nigeria scheduled for Saturday, May 2. Speaking from Nigeria on Friday, coach Maggie Chombo described the first leg encounter against the Falconets as a major milestone for the Junior Scorchers. Chombo stated that the squad's morale is high and the players are well adjusted to the local weather, according to Pan-Africa Football. The team arrived in Nigeria earlier in the week to prepare for the match at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, with the return leg scheduled for May 9 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Update: In netball, the Malawi under-21 squad continues its strong run in Division 2 of South Africa's Telkom Netball League. The Queen Cubs delivered a 76-26 victory over the Northern Cape Diamonds on Thursday, April 30, taking a 40-13 lead by halftime and maintaining their scoring pace throughout the match, reports SuperSport. This performance followed a 58-39 win against the Mpumalanga Sunbirds on Wednesday, April 29, ensuring the Malawian invitational side remains a top contender in the regional tournament.
