Update: The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services issued a fresh weather forecast on April 30, predicting occasionally windy, foggy, and cool-to-warm conditions across Malawi. According to the department, light showers are expected mainly over the southern tip of the country due to a southeasterly air mass. This forecast arrives as communities continue to navigate the aftermath of recent severe weather and torrential downpours.

Update: As unstable conditions persist around Lake Malawi, authorities are dealing with a continued increase in water-related accidents. MBC Online reports that drowning cases have spiked in Nkhotakota District. The ongoing fatalities highlight the dangers posed by unpredictable lake weather and hazardous shoreline conditions.

The recent extreme weather has also severely impacted local infrastructure and community relief efforts. Humanitarian teams from Action for Progress faced nearly impassable muddy roads while delivering food supplies to Kasitu Village near the lake in Nkhotakota. According to the Malawi Project, the challenging terrain illustrates the direct difficulties communities and aid workers face following severe environmental disruptions.
