FAWEMA Closes Applications for 750 STEM University Bursaries

Sunday, May 3, 2026

The Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, will close applications for its university bridging program on May 4, 2026. Operating under the Second Chance Pathways phase II program, the initiative aims to increase higher education access for underrepresented groups in Malawi.

According to FAWEMA, the program provides 750 education bursaries designed to help young students secure entry into four-year Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degree courses. Eligible students can apply to study at several selected institutions, including the University of Malawi (UNIMA), LUANAR, MUST, and MZUNI.

The program maintains strict demographic targets for its admissions. FAWEMA states that 80 percent of the bursary spots are allocated to female candidates, while 15 percent are specifically reserved for refugees and persons with disabilities.
