African Parks Majete has pledged a K47.5 million funding package to support five primary schools situated around the Majete Wildlife Reserve in Mwanza and Chikwawa districts, according to Zodiak Online. The funds will be distributed equally, with Kachere, Kankhulungire, Mvivi, Kandeu, and Kambewe primary schools each receiving K9.5 million. The financial support is aimed at improving access to essential teaching and learning materials to address local resource shortages that negatively affect student performance.
In addition to the financial allocation, African Parks plans to introduce mentorship programmes and incentives for female teachers working in remote schools. Majete Community Development Officer Dixie Makwale told Zodiak Online that these efforts are designed to motivate young learners, particularly girls, to remain in school and succeed in their studies. The conservation organisation has previously constructed 13 school libraries and currently provides scholarships for 100 secondary school students and 25 university students in the surrounding communities.
