The Malawi Revenue Authority has officially implemented its nationwide Electronic Invoicing System. The platform replaces older Electronic Fiscal Devices to improve tax compliance, according to the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation. MRA Commissioner General Felix Tambulasi confirmed that over 7,500 of the 9,000 VAT-registered operators have transitioned to the new digital system. The Malawi Economic Justice Network publicly backed the rollout. Executive Director Bertha Lipipa stated the system will help curb corruption, MBC reported. Lipipa also warned that boycotting the new tax measures would be equivalent to economic sabotage.

In the broader political and economic sphere, Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamveka is facing increased scrutiny over his policies under President Peter Mutharika's administration, according to Nyasa Times. While the government has managed to reduce the official inflation rate to around 24 percent, strict stabilization efforts are maintaining heavy financial pressure on households. Nyasa Times reports that the administration continues to struggle with severe fuel and fertilizer shortages, public debt levels exceeding 90 percent of the total economic output, and local petrol prices that have reached MWK 6,672 per litre.
