Malawi Auditor General Leads SADC Financial Review as Nation Prepares for UN Development Report

A team led by Edwin Mpeni from Malawi's National Audit Office has officially commenced the 2025/2026 financial audit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat, according to The Herald. The audit began on May 4 following a courtesy call with SADC Executive Secretary Elias Mpedi Magosi and includes 11 members drawn from Malawi, Mauritius, and Seychelles. The rotational board will review financial operations to ensure institutional transparency, with its final report to be presented to the SADC Council of Ministers.

In United Nations developments, Malawi is preparing to present its third Voluntary National Review at the upcoming 2026 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, according to the SDG Knowledge Hub. The UN Secretariat recently compiled the main messages from 36 participating nations, outlining their domestic progress and current challenges in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
