Former President Lazarus Chakwera's influence within the Malawi Congress Party is facing internal scrutiny. According to Nyasa Times, MCP lawyer Christopher Ndalama questioned Chakwera's current political role on Friday, stating that the party can no longer benefit from the former president. In a separate report, Nyasa Times notes that citizens are debating whether the United Democratic Front could serve as a political solution for the country in light of current national challenges.

In the legislature, parliament has begun training sessions for 45 Members of Parliament to improve the management of the Constituency Development Fund, according to MBC.

At the executive level, President Peter Mutharika launched the 2026 Red Cross Flag Week at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, according to Pan African Visions. Mutharika donated K10 million to the cause and praised the Malawi Red Cross Society for its work in disaster response, food security, and emergency first aid. During the event, Malawi Red Cross Society President Innocent Majiya commended the government for restoring subventions and investing in infrastructure such as the Disaster Response Operations Centre.
