A group of 740 teachers is taking the government to court over unfulfilled promotion and salary adjustment promises, Malawi Cables reports. The teachers, who were promoted to Grade I in September of last year, claim authorities failed to deliver their official promotion letters and corresponding pay increases by the end of April. The educators expressed frustration over the delay, noting that the government recently increased salaries for other civil servants while ignoring their pending upgrades.

In higher education, the University of Malawi opened applications for its Diploma in Law and Bachelor of Laws Honours programmes for the 2026 to 2027 academic year. According to the UNIMA website, the School of Law, Economics and Government released the call for eligible candidates with applications set to close on June 2. Similarly, the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences announced its September 2026 intake for postgraduate programmes on its official site, inviting applications for various master's and doctorate degrees until the end of May.
