In recent higher education news, the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) have opened new applications for academic and specialized training programmes. According to UNIMA, the School of Law, Economics and Government issued a call for applications on May 11 for its Diploma in Law and Bachelor of Laws Honours programmes for the 2026 to 2027 academic year.
At the same time, MUBAS has partnered with GIZ and GOPA AFC to launch the second cohort of the MIERA III Capacity Building Project. According to a May 10 announcement from the university, the Business Incubation Centre is inviting micro, small, and medium enterprises operating in the sustainable building materials sector to apply for the training. The project is designed to improve the business operations of companies producing eco-friendly building materials, and the university noted that special consideration will be given to women-led enterprises. Applications for the cohort are scheduled to close on May 17.
In international academic exchanges, Marshall University in the United States reported on its medical student rotations in Malawi. According to a May 10 publication from the university, a graduating medical student reflected on the practical lessons and community support experienced during a recent clinical placement in the country, highlighting the continued educational benefits of cross-border medical partnerships.
