Update: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. George Chaponda chaired an emergency meeting of the Southern African Development Community in Nairobi to address ongoing xenophobic violence in South Africa, according to the Tanzania Daily News. The SADC Committee of Ministers of the Political, Defence and Security Organization gathered to discuss regional security challenges and protect foreign nationals living in South African cities. During the talks, Chaponda assured delegates that the committee's security recommendations would be implemented quickly to maintain stability and economic cooperation across the region.

In international donor news, Loughborough University formally handed over a solar microgrid and green hydrogen installation to Mwanza District Hospital on May 12, as reported by the university's press office. The 1.5 million pound Innovate UK project, developed in collaboration with Renew'N'able Malawi and other international partners, features a 20-kilowatt-hour lead-acid battery-electrolyser system that produces green hydrogen for clean cooking.

The new facility is designed to replace traditional charcoal use for patient guardians while also supplying electricity to the hospital's maternity and pediatric under-5 wards. Representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the District Commissioner, and the Mwanza District Council attended the handover event, which officially moves the international energy initiative from its testing phase into live operation.
