According to a May 13 report by the World Bank, the Malawi Electricity Access Project has successfully connected nearly two million people to electricity, advancing the country's climate and renewable energy goals. The initiative scaled up private-sector solar home systems and expanded grid networks under the broader Mission 300 program. Om Bhandari, the World Bank Senior Energy Specialist for Malawi, stated that the project demonstrates how clean energy solutions can be delivered at scale to reduce environmental impacts in one of the world's least-electrified nations.
Update: According to the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, a shift in national weather patterns is expected beginning May 14. The department's latest bulletin notes that an easterly air mass, which recently caused hot and mostly sunny conditions, is being replaced by a moist south-easterly system. Meteorologists report that this high-pressure system will pump moisture into the country, bringing partly cloudy skies and isolated rain showers over the coming days.
