Update: The Malawian government is moving forward with a broad overhaul of its education system to better align schooling with labor market needs and address youth unemployment, according to Ecofin Agency. Education Minister Bright Msaka met with a British delegation, including Member of Parliament Bambos Charalambous, in Lilongwe on Monday to discuss the upcoming changes. The reform initiative is supported by the United Kingdom through the Global Partnership for Education.

As part of the policy shift, the Ministry of Education plans to introduce entrepreneurship as a standalone subject across all curriculum levels. Ecofin Agency reports that the reforms will also focus on strengthening foundational learning, expanding digital education tools, and bringing tablets into schools to update student assessment methods. Additionally, the ministry is conducting a system-wide review to identify learning difficulties and academic strengths at an early stage, which will help guide students toward suitable educational and career paths.
