Update: The High Court of Malawi has ordered lawyer Alexious Kamangila to compensate Judge Kenan Manda for defamation, according to Nation Online. In a judgement delivered by Judge Howard Pemba, Kamangila was directed to pay damages and remove defamatory posts dating back to October 2024.

Update: The government's legal battle against a K1 trillion compensation claim from the defunct Finance Bank of Malawi has been adjourned by the Supreme Court of Appeal until June 15. The extension grants state financial experts time to prepare a counter-analysis. According to Nation Online, Attorney General Frank Mbeta confirmed that the state will aggressively contest the proposed figures before any damages are formally assessed.

In other news, the Beautify Malawi Trust, chaired by former First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, is facing public scrutiny after accepting large donations from individuals facing legal challenges in South Africa. The Mail & Guardian reports that the charity recently received a $1 million pledge from Wicknell Chivayo and a K300 million donation from Shepherd Bushiri. The trust accepted these funds without providing publicly available audited accounts or confirmed proof of registration under the updated non-profit regulatory framework.

Finally, the Zambia Police Service and the Malawi Police Service conducted a joint cross-border operation into Malawi to rescue an abducted seven-year-old boy. According to the Daily Nation Zambia, the child was taken by a farm worker who was demanding unpaid wages from the boy's father.
