The Parliament of Malawi's First Deputy Speaker, Victor Musowa, met with a United Kingdom parliamentary delegation on May 28 to review UK-funded early grade numeracy initiatives. Led by UK MP Bambos Charalambous, the discussions highlighted potential lobbying efforts to conduct early numeracy education in local vernacular languages to improve student comprehension, according to the Parliament of Malawi website. Musowa stated that the parliamentary Committee on Education will closely monitor the programme to ensure resources are managed prudently across implementing districts.

As the national examination period approaches, education officials are urging students to remain focused and avoid misconduct. According to Nation Online on May 27, Lilongwe Rural East District Education Management Information Systems officer Snowden Banda cautioned learners against negative peer influence and advised them to use their remaining time consulting teachers and revising coursework.

In the higher education sector, an agribusiness incubation programme at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is benefiting rural communities. AfricaBrief reported on May 28 that a former LUANAR extension services student, Daniel Chibwe, has successfully trained over 200 farmers in climate-smart agriculture since 2022. Mentored by the Farmers Union of Malawi and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, the university-backed initiative has helped local farmers increase crop yields by up to 30 percent through improved permaculture techniques.
