The Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) held its 25th Congregation Mass this week, sending a new cohort of graduates into the workforce. According to AMECEA News, CUNIMA Chancellor Right Reverend Martin Anwel Mtumbuka advised the 2026 graduates to prepare for both the successes and challenges of life after university. Mtumbuka urged the graduates to positively impact the country and cautioned them against engaging in corruption or falling into despair. University Council Chairperson Most Reverend Thomas Luke Msusa also spoke at the event, reaffirming the institution's dedication to producing highly competitive professionals for the national job market.
In an update to the review of local numeracy initiatives by a United Kingdom delegation, visiting officials met with First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Victor Musowa to discuss early grade education. The Parliament of Malawi reports that the delegation, led by Member of Parliament Bambos Charalambous, commended the community involvement they observed at various schools. Charalambous noted that the group plans to engage the Parliamentary Committee on Education to lobby for early numeracy instruction to be taught in vernacular languages. Musowa assured the delegation that parliament will continue its oversight role to ensure educational resources are managed prudently across the implementing districts.
