The Green Kwacha Initiative has partnered with the Nsanje District Council to launch a 30-year tree-planting and conservation project protecting the Matandwe Forest Reserve and Mwabvi Game Reserve, according to Nation Online. Director of operations Luke Kasamba stated that the programme will enable local communities to earn carbon credits. This financial incentive aims to help residents start alternative businesses, such as beekeeping or bamboo planting, and reduce their reliance on illegal charcoal production. Nsanje district assistant forestry officer Alick Khwambala added that the effort supports the Malawi 2063 goals to restore the region's green cover. Additionally, Acting Traditional Authority Malemia noted the project will help mitigate seasonal river flooding.

Successive environmental disasters are pushing Malawi's food system and humanitarian response to the brink, according to World Food Programme Country Director Hyoung-Joon Lim. In an interview with Nation Online, Lim warned that repeated climate shocks are colliding with shrinking global aid budgets. This combination leaves rural farmers highly vulnerable to reduced crop yields and market instability.

In recent weather updates, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services forecasts generally windy and partly cloudy conditions across the country through the end of the month. According to the department, nighttime and early morning temperatures will remain cool with patches of fog, driven by a moist south-easterly air mass.
