The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has directed supporters holding physical tickets for the cancelled 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea to travel to Lilongwe for refund processing, according to Malawi24. The match, originally scheduled to take place at Bingu National Stadium, was cancelled nearly 225 days ago just hours before kickoff after the visiting team withdrew.

Update: The Malawi National Women's Football Team, the Scorchers, have departed from Chileka International Airport for Dar es Salaam to play two international friendly matches against Tanzania, Africa Top Sports reports. The matches, scheduled for June 3 and June 6, are part of the team's preparations for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The schedule was adjusted to feature back-to-back games against the hosts following Ghana's withdrawal from the originally planned fixtures.

In domestic football, Mighty Wanderers secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Chitipa United in the FDH Bank Premiership, with Chitipa coach Kondwa Ikwanga publicly criticising his team's defensive performance, according to Malawi24. Elsewhere in the league, Goshen City Dedza Dynamos claimed their first victory of the season by defeating Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 after a five-match winless streak, while Ekhaya FC collected three points in a 2-0 win against Masters FC following a brace from forward Allen Chihana.

Away from football, the Press Corporation Limited (PCL) Invitational Golf Tournament teed off at the Blantyre Sports Club on Saturday, Malawi24 reports. The corporate event drew a field of over 100 golfers to strengthen business ties through the sport.
