MANEB Begins 2026 JCE Exams as Universities Announce New Academic Programmes

The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) commenced the administration of the 2026 Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations on Monday, June 1. According to Malawi Nation, 162,967 candidates are registered to sit for the exams, which will conclude on June 10. MANEB spokesperson Angela Kashitigu confirmed that all preparations were finalised and the board does not expect any major administrative challenges during the testing period.

In higher education, the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) has partnered with the Embassy of Iceland and the University of Iceland to offer a new training course, according to a GRÓ GEST announcement. The programme focuses on ending violence through human rights advocacy and combines online modules with an intensive in-person workshop at the LUANAR campus in Lilongwe.

Additionally, the Malawi Research and Education Network (MAREN) opened registration on June 1 for UbuntuNet-Connect 2026. MAREN announced that it will host the regional research and education networking conference at the Pearl Convention Centre in Lilongwe to bring together university technology leaders, researchers, and policymakers to improve digital infrastructure across Eastern and Southern Africa.

In other developments, Magomero Community Development College is set to roll out a new first-degree curriculum in social protection for the 2027 academic year. College principal Thokozani Mtapaonga told Malawi Nation that the course aligns with national education and social welfare policies. She noted that the degree will enable extension workers to upgrade their academic qualifications and advance their careers. Finally, Nyasa Times reports that Deputy Minister of Gender Martha Mzomera-Ngwira pledged full educational support and resources for all Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education candidates in her constituency who get selected to national secondary schools.
