The United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances is scheduled to review Malawi during its upcoming session in Geneva, according to a March 6 announcement by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. As a state party to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, Malawi will undergo a periodic evaluation by a panel of independent international experts on March 11 and 12 to assess its compliance with the treaty.

In regional environmental diplomacy, Malawi has partnered with Mozambique and Tanzania to launch a $7.12 million initiative to jointly manage the Ruvuma River Basin. According to the Club of Mozambique, the five-year project was formally launched at an inception workshop in Dar es Salaam on March 4. Funded by the Global Environment Facility, the effort aims to protect the shared waterway and support climate resilience across the three nations. Although Malawi accounts for less than two percent of the total basin area, authorities note that the country's participation is essential for managing the river system from its headwaters.

On the regional health front, the African Development Bank Group has approved a $9.57 million grant to improve emergency preparedness across the Southern African Development Community, which includes Malawi. The AfDB announced on March 4 that the financing will support the Resilient Health Systems project. The funds are earmarked for training laboratory technicians and community health workers to improve the region's capacity to handle public health and nutrition emergencies.

Additionally, the United Nations country team in Malawi announced a renewed strategic partnership with the national government on March 4. According to the UN in Malawi, the updated cooperation framework focuses on addressing national development challenges and securing coordinated donor support for long-term economic stability.
