According to Nyasa Times, the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament has cleared the boards of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority regarding the recruitment of their directors general. PAC Vice Chairperson Joshua Malango stated that the committee found no evidence that the boards violated established laws or procedures when appointing Brian Banda to lead the broadcasting corporation and Mayamiko Nkoloma to head the regulatory authority. The appointments had previously faced public scrutiny and allegations of procedural irregularities.

In a separate legal matter involving the national broadcaster, the Industrial Relations Court in Zomba has issued an urgent interim order halting the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation from terminating the contracts of its district reporters, Malawi24 reports. The corporation had attempted to dismiss the reporters, who were recruited last year, citing alleged political influence from the previous administration in their hiring process. The court injunction prevents the broadcaster from enforcing the dismissals until the matter undergoes a full legal review.

On the economic front, UTM Party President and former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Dalitso Kabambe has warned the government against treating upcoming International Monetary Fund negotiations as a political victory, according to Malawi24. With an IMF mission scheduled to visit Malawi from June 9 to 18, Kabambe argued that the real test lies in domestic policy execution and fiscal discipline rather than simply securing a new Extended Credit Facility agreement. He cautioned that a fresh IMF deal cannot substitute for a credible, home-grown economic recovery strategy.
