A United Nations technical review has found major weaknesses in Malawi's carbon market reporting and governance, according to Carbon Pulse. The assessment evaluated the country's participation in international carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and raised issues regarding transparency, accounting practices, and overall environmental integrity.

In Northern Malawi, the German agency GIZ has awarded Luwawa Forest Lodge a contract to lead an afforestation and environmental restoration project in the Viphya region. According to Luwawa Forest Lodge management, the project aims to rehabilitate areas deforested by unsustainable charcoal production. The initiative also includes a community development component, providing local households with training in beekeeping and honey production to create an alternative income source.

Update: Following the recent launch of the National State of the Environment and Outlook Report, government officials have highlighted that environmental losses are draining nearly seven percent of Malawi's gross domestic product each year, Nation Online reports. Ministry of Natural Resources Principal Secretary Misheck Munthali stated that reliance on biomass energy and agricultural land expansion are worsening the economic impacts of climate-related disasters.
