Update: Civil society organisations have strongly condemned the state for moving to discontinue corruption charges against convicted Chinese national Lin Yunhua. A coalition of 12 organisations issued a statement this week criticising the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Director of Public Prosecutions for dropping the case, according to Nyasa Times. The groups warned that abandoning the high-profile bribery trial without a clear legal explanation damages public confidence in the national fight against wildlife crime and corruption.

In a separate legal development, the High Court in Blantyre awarded damages to an accident victim and the dependents of two deceased victims 15 years after a fatal traffic crash. Judge Mike Tembo delivered the 31-page judgment ordering Likanga Transport and its insurance company to compensate the claimants, the Malawi Nation reports. While the delayed ruling highlights ongoing speed challenges within the judicial system, a June 2026 Afrobarometer survey found that 67 percent of Malawians remain confident they can obtain justice through the courts.
