Higher Education Updates: UNIMA Launches Solar Certificate as LUANAR Debuts African Econometrics Textbook

According to the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Professor Abdi Khalil Edriss has published a new book titled "Econometrics Africa". Released this week, the textbook uses exclusively African data to analyze econometric models. LUANAR Vice Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Kaunda praised the publication, calling it a major academic achievement for higher education and research on the continent.

In a separate event, LUANAR partnered with the Indian High Commission to host an International Day of Yoga wellness session at the NRC Quadrangle. The university announced the successful event over the weekend, noting that the June 12 initiative aimed to promote student wellness and strengthen cultural ties between Malawi and India.

The University of Malawi has also expanded its academic offerings. According to a Monday announcement from the UNIMA School of Natural and Applied Sciences, admissions are now open for a new Certificate in Solar Systems Installation and Maintenance. The practical program is designed to equip students with technical skills for the growing renewable energy sector.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Students' Loans and Grants Board has issued a final notice to learners across the country. According to a Monday update from HESLGB, the window for student loan applications for the upcoming academic year will officially close on June 24, 2026.
