Scorchers to Open WAFCON Against Nigeria as NDL and Premiership Fixtures Shift

The Malawi Women's National Football Team, the Scorchers, will open their maiden Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament against defending champions Nigeria on July 28, 2026, following the release of the rescheduled tournament fixtures. According to Africa Top Sports, the Group C matches will be played in Rabat, Morocco. Malawi is scheduled to face Egypt on August 1 before concluding the group stage against regional rivals Zambia on August 5.

Update: In the NBS Bank National Division League, Songwe Border United has claimed the top spot in the standings. Africa Top Sports reports that the team reached 10 points after securing a 2-1 victory over Embangweni United. Former leaders Ndirande Stars dropped to third place after a goalless draw against Ntaja United. This allowed Extreme FC to move into second place with nine points following a win over Mzuzu City Hammers.

Update: The Super League of Malawi has adjusted upcoming FDH Bank Premiership fixtures following the recent safety certification of Nankhaka Stadium. According to Malawi Cables, the match between Blue Eagles FC and Kalonga United FC has been relocated to the newly approved venue. Additionally, the match between Masters FC and Creck Sporting Club has been moved to Sunday due to the unavailability of the Bingu National Stadium.
