Update: The first-leg matches of the 2026 Airtel Top 8 quarter-finals concluded over the weekend with Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers taking early leads. According to the Nyasa Times, both teams secured 2-0 victories, with Silver Strikers defeating Karonga United at Silver Stadium and Mighty Wanderers beating Creck Sporting Club at Mpira Stadium. In the other fixtures, Blue Eagles played out a goalless draw against Civil Service United, while Ekhaya FC held defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to a 1-1 draw at Bingu National Stadium. The return legs are scheduled for mid-July.

In local football administration, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has initiated disciplinary action against the Super League of Malawi (SULOM). Malawi24 reports that the charges follow a power dispute over venue safety that ended in an abandoned match at Kamuzu Stadium. During the incident, police deployed tear gas to disperse crowds, leaving many fans stranded at the facility.

Football supporters in Salima will soon have a local venue as a new district stadium nears completion. According to Malawi24, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Reverend Moses Chimphepo, inspected the site on Wednesday and expressed satisfaction with the construction progress. The project is supported by the Constituency Development Fund and is expected to generate revenue for the district council while allowing residents to watch live matches without travelling to Lilongwe.

At the youth level, a new national football league has officially commenced. According to the Malawi National Council of Sports, the inaugural youth tournament features 32 teams representing communities across all three regions of the country.
