In women's football, the Confederation of African Football has officially rescheduled the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. APAnews reports that the tournament, originally slated to begin on March 17, will now take place from July 25 to August 16 to ensure a smoothly run competition. The Malawi national women's team, the Scorchers, is drawn into Group C alongside Zambia, Nigeria, and Egypt. Following the announcement, Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili expressed disappointment over the sudden postponement, according to the official FAM website.
Meanwhile, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya has declared an end to the rebuilding phase for the men's national team. In an interview with Nation Online, Haiya stated that the Flames are now expected to deliver immediate results, setting firm targets for the team to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup. Flames head coach Kalisto Pasuwa agreed that the squad is now ready to compete at a higher level, moving away from a primary focus on long-term development after recent struggles in regional tournaments.
