Mzuzu Stadium has been declared fully ready to host elite football matches again after completing necessary rehabilitation work, according to Nyasa Times. Mzuzu City Council Public Relations Officer Macdonald Gondwe confirmed that the facility now meets the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) club licensing standards following improvements to the pitch, scoreboard, dressing rooms, and technical stands.

Nyasa Times reports that the stadium was initially closed ahead of the 2026/2027 season alongside Kamuzu and Nankhaka stadiums following nationwide facility inspections in mid-April. The reopening brings immediate relief to Northern Region football fans and Moyale Barracks FC, who had been forced to play their home fixtures at Rumphi Stadium during the closure.
