Medical institutions in Malawi are working to improve disease surveillance and health system research during emergencies. On June 18, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine announced that the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme has joined a new international study. Researchers will develop standby protocols to ensure rapid and ethical medical studies can proceed smoothly during sudden public health crises, such as cholera outbreaks and climate-related disasters.

In the medical imaging sector, newly appointed diagnostic radiology residents are beginning a new four-year magnetic resonance imaging training curriculum, according to a June 16 publication by the Radiological Society of North America. RAD-AID Malawi and the national radiology residency program developed the education program to prepare clinicians to operate up to five new MRI scanners that are currently being installed across the country.
