The funding covers underserved medical specialties, including sexual and reproductive medicine and women's health.
In pediatric healthcare, Madonna's Raising Malawi initiative has launched new partnerships with KidsOR and ELMA Philanthropies to expand access to safe surgeries, World ORT reports. The collaboration will directly support the flagship Mercy James Centre, which currently performs surgeries for over 2,000 children annually in Malawi while training local pediatric surgeons and intensive care workers.
Meanwhile, the international humanitarian organisation World Relief has transitioned its operations in the country to a new, fully localised nongovernmental organisation called Impact Relief. According to a June 18 press release, the independent entity is led by former World Relief Malawi country director Matilda Matitha. Impact Relief will continue essential community health initiatives, including combating HIV and AIDS, improving access to clean water, and supporting vulnerable families through local church partnerships.
