Update: In response to impending climate threats, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme have launched a $202 million joint anticipatory action appeal for 22 high-risk countries, including Malawi. The WFP reports that the initiative aims to protect 8.8 million people globally from a forecasted strong El Niño weather pattern in late 2026, which is expected to increase the likelihood of droughts, floods, and agricultural disruptions.

Update: The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba, Alfred Mateyu Chaima, has renewed calls for churches to integrate climate change education into their weekly activities. According to AMECEA News, the bishop stressed that church members themselves are sometimes involved in deforestation and charcoal production, making congregation-level awareness important for environmental preservation.
