Malawi is set to co-host a virtual Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government alongside the Southern African Development Community on June 22, 2026. According to the SADC Secretariat, Second Vice President Enock Kanzingeni Chihana will chair the proceedings on behalf of President Arthur Peter Mutharika, who currently heads the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. The summit will focus on regional peace, security, and conflict prevention. Preparatory sessions involving Senior Officials and the Ministerial Committee of the Organ will take place prior to the main event.
Malawi currently serves as the Chair of the Organ Troika, working alongside Eswatini as the Incoming Chair and Tanzania as the Outgoing Chair. The leadership meeting aims to reinforce the region's commitment to democratic governance, human rights, and the protection of member states' territorial integrity, Malawi24 reports.
Update: Following earlier coverage of the World Refugee Day football event at Dzaleka Refugee Camp, the FIFA Foundation and the United Nations Refugee Agency have formally detailed their joint initiative at the site. According to the FIFA Foundation, the programme trains coaches from both refugee and host populations to lead safe and inclusive sports activities for youth. The UN-backed collaboration is designed to promote child protection, social inclusion, and skill development for displaced communities living in Malawi.
