Preparations are underway for the Association of Malawians in Ireland to host a major Independence Day celebration in Dublin on July 4, 2026, according to Malawi24. The cultural event will feature headline performances from popular Malawian musicians Bwede and Gibo Pearson. Association chairman Henry Mkumbira Phiri stated that the organizers selected the two artists to bring an authentic taste of Malawian music and culture to the diaspora. Organized in partnership with Mehdi and Jones of Starlight Production, the gathering will operate under a theme of celebrating heritage, empowering communities, and building partnerships.

In local celebrity news, Sigelege Beach Resort has issued a public statement responding to criticism from prominent musician Tay Grin, as reported by Malawi24. The dispute began when the artist visited the Salima resort and later posted on social media that he found the experience boring. The resort management defended its operations in a release, stating that the facility maintains strict professional policies and treats all guests equally, regardless of their celebrity status or social background.

Meanwhile, the local music scene is anticipating the upcoming release of the compilation album "Sounds of Malawi, Vol. 1" produced in partnership with Hen House Studios. As part of the project rollout, ethnomusicologist and cultural advocate Waliko Makhala released a music video on June 23 for his featured track "Moto Wayaka". Makhala is known for coordinating the Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Sessions at the Jacaranda Foundation in Blantyre. His latest project combines traditional Malawian acoustics with messages of social empowerment and self-reliance.
