Castel Malawi Limited has donated K10 million worth of beekeeping equipment to communities surrounding the Lunyangwa catchment area in Mzuzu in an effort to combat deforestation. According to a July 10 report from Nyasa Times, the initiative aims to provide residents with economic alternatives, encouraging them to earn income through honey production rather than cutting down trees. The corporate initiative aligns with recent conservation efforts in the Kaning'ina Forest reserve, where the company planted 1,500 trees between 2022 and 2025.

In a related effort to reduce pressure on Malawi's forests, Chikwawa-based PressCane Limited is expanding the distribution of ethanol cooking stoves as a cleaner alternative to charcoal and firewood. Advanced BioFuels USA reports that the project is supported by the United Nations Development Programme's Green Economic Transition Facility. Since October 2025, 566 households have purchased the stoves, which are designed to lower indoor air pollution and decrease reliance on the country's dwindling timber resources.

Regional climate projections warn of worsening environmental threats later this year. A July 8 report by Plataforma Media indicates that dry and hot conditions will significantly increase the risk of uncontrolled wildfires across the arid savanna regions of Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe between August and October. The forecasts note that these upcoming climate shocks threaten to compound the agricultural and humanitarian vulnerabilities left by recent extreme El NiƱo weather patterns.

On the short-term weather front, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services forecasts cool to cold conditions continuing across parts of the country through the week. The department noted that a moist southeasterly air mass is expected to bring partly cloudy skies, moderate winds, and isolated light rain showers to select areas.
