Update: The management dispute over the Mhalaunda Health Centre has reached a conclusion following the official departure of the Embangweni Mission Hospital and the CCAP Livingstonia Synod, according to Malawi24. Community members, represented by the Mhalaunda Citizens Forum, previously issued a 90-day ultimatum demanding the facility be handed over to the government to ensure access to free public healthcare. Forum chairperson John Chirwa confirmed that hospital staff were seen removing medical equipment and office assets from the facility. Residents protested the mission hospital administration because patients were charged consultation fees up to K5,000 and malaria treatments costing as much as K20,000. The district health office and local council have previously stated they are not yet prepared to take over the facility.

In Blantyre, police have launched a murder investigation following the death of Dr. Atughanile Chomo, a 28-year-old physician at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. Nyasa Times reports that Dr. Chomo was found dead in her home. Hospital officials stated that she had joined the institution in January, describing her death as a tragic loss for the medical community.

In international health policy, Malawi is among more than 30 countries worldwide that have signed a new bilateral health agreement with the United States under the America First global health strategy, according to The BMJ. African nations make up the majority of the partners. The agreements follow severe external funding cuts by the US government. The new deals require partner countries to share surveillance data, grant direct access to health information, and provide biological specimens and pathogen sequencing data to the United States.
