The Jere Ngoni of Mzimba District have launched a series of fundraising events ahead of the Umthetho Cultural Festival, which is scheduled to run from August 5 to 8, 2026, at the foot of Hora Mountain, according to Nation Online. With a total budget of K337.5 million, this year's festival operates under the theme of land preservation and sustainable development. Organisers recently kicked off their financial drive with the Ingoma Sunset Soirée at a lodge in Mzuzu, aiming to raise K25 million through traditional dance performances and the sale of cultural merchandise.

In regional music news, Zimbabwean musical group The DAB Band has secured a performance slot at the upcoming Lake of Stars Malawi Arts Festival, The Herald reports. Scheduled for October 2 to 4, 2026, in Nkhotakota, the festival will mark the Bulawayo-based ensemble's first concert outside of their home country. The invitation follows the band's recent national success in the Chibuku Road to Fame competition and the release of their debut album.

Update: Following earlier coverage of a new Malawian film premiering in the United States, Nation Online confirms that "Lissy Blue Heart" made its official debut in Seattle, Washington. Hosted by the Malawi Seattle Association, the screening of the television spin-off drama drew an audience of 150 diaspora members and locals. The premiere coincided with a weekend of dual Independence Day celebrations hosted by Malawian communities across the US, who marked both the American July 4 holiday and Malawi's July 6 anniversary with cultural gatherings and interdenominational prayers in states such as Washington and Indiana.
