Update: Malawi is set to host the 28th Ordinary Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation from July 16 to July 17 in Salima. According to Channel Africa and an official SADC statement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. George Chaponda will chair the event. The gathering will bring together senior government representatives from across the region to discuss peace, security, and governance.

In domestic affairs, Members of Parliament are facing public scrutiny over an alleged plot to extend their term of office from five to seven years, Nyasa Times reports. Concurrently, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Eastern Region leadership held a strategy meeting in Liwonde over the weekend to demand tighter coordination and discipline among its members.

Update: Political friction within the administration remains a talking point after Sylvester Namiwa of the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) alleged that the First Lady is behind a rift between President Peter Mutharika and Vice President Jane Ansah. Nyasa Times reports that this allegation coincides with recent news that Vice President Ansah has joined the global G100 women leaders' council.

Update: The ongoing exodus of citizens from South Africa has sharply increased. AFP reports that 38,000 Malawian nationals returned home in a single month to escape anti-migrant violence and threats. South African authorities noted that over 53,000 foreign nationals have recently been processed for deportation or repatriation. Backlash has also hit the diplomatic service, as Nyasa Times reports that aid groups are accusing the Malawi mission in Pretoria of abandoning xenophobia victims in a cold basement without proper provisions.
