The Malawi government has broken ground on a modern market facility in Lilongwe's Area 1 to promote agricultural value addition. According to Nyasa Times, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ben Malunga Phiri launched the construction as part of the TRADE Programme. This nationwide project, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), plans to construct seven modern markets designed to help farmers sell processed goods and improve their incomes in line with the country's long-term development goals.

In a separate development to improve last-mile agricultural service delivery, AGRA Malawi has partnered with World Bicycle Relief. AfricaBrief reports that the organisations donated 200 Buffalo Bicycles to Community Agribusiness Advisors. These advisors operate under the Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA) programme, and they will use the bicycles to reach remote farming communities with vital extension services and technical support.

Efforts to improve household food security are also expanding at the community level. The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops, acting through its Catholic Health Commission, has finalised an Integrated Homestead Farming Implementation Strategy. Following a workshop in Balaka that concluded on July 10, the commission announced a framework focused on small-scale irrigation, water harvesting, and nutrition, according to AMECEA. The strategy relies on recent assessments in Balaka, Machinga, and Phalombe, and aims to reduce reliance on emergency food interventions by establishing long-term agricultural production.
