Update: Following earlier venue setbacks, organisers of the Sand Music Festival have officially relocated this year's event to Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi, Nation Online reports. Lead coordinator Yamikani Chinguwo stated that rising water levels and flooding on Lake Malawi had submerged the originally planned beaches in Salima. The festival is returning from September 25 to 27 after a two-year hiatus following the passing of founder Lucius Banda. A full artist lineup is expected in early August.
In other events, the annual Mount Mulanje Porters Race took place on July 11 at the Likhubula Valley. According to Maravi Express, the event combined extreme mountain running with local cultural celebrations. Organisers projected a turnout of over 400 participants, including professional athletes and local mountain guides, to promote district tourism and environmental awareness.
