A severe political dispute has erupted in the Karonga Nyungwe constituency following recent parliamentary elections, according to Nyasa Times. UTM incumbent Member of Parliament Keneth Ndovie, who retained his seat by a narrow margin of 463 votes, alleged that his main competitor, Wilson Mavwanya Sichali of the Democratic Progressive Party, plotted to assassinate him to force a by-election. Sichali publicly dismissed the accusations as laughable, noting he was amused to receive inquiries from regional and national police headquarters regarding a purported arrest warrant. Political analysts have urged authorities to carefully investigate the escalating character assassination claims before taking action.

In other political developments, the growing presence of controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo in Malawi has sparked debate across political circles, Nyasa Times reports. Chivayo recently held meetings with both President Peter Mutharika at State House in Lilongwe and former President Lazarus Chakwera. While the optics of a foreign businessman meeting rival political figures have drawn scrutiny, Chivayo denied any political motives. He stated his visits are strictly to explore large-scale investments in renewable energy, public infrastructure, and real estate.
