In health funding news, a coalition of civil society organisations has accused the Malawi Global Fund Coordinating Committee of running an irregular and exclusionary selection process for its eighth grant cycle, according to Nyasa Times. In a joint statement, representatives from groups including MANERELA+ and the Female Sex Workers Association argued that the process to select a Community Principal Recipient violated basic principles of transparency. The Global Fund serves as a primary source of external financing for Malawi's HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria programmes, meaning the designated recipients play a major role in disbursing funds at the community level. Committee chairperson Cliff Chiunda could not be reached for comment regarding the allegations.
