Update: The Malawi women's national football team, the Scorchers, suffered a 4-0 defeat to Ghana's Black Queens in their final pre-tournament friendly on Thursday in Casablanca, Morocco, Foot Africa reports. The match served as a final test ahead of Malawi's historic debut at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Despite the loss, the squad received a major boost with the arrival of star forward Temwa Chawinga, who joined the team in Morocco ahead of their Group C opener against defending champions Nigeria on July 28, according to Maravi Express.

In domestic football, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets defender Yamikani Mologeni was named the FDH Bank Premiership Player of the Month for June, according to Owinna. The Super League of Malawi recognised Mologeni for his standout performances during the team's recent league fixtures against Kamuzu Barracks and Masters FC.

Meanwhile, Inspire Academy has generated European scouting interest following a successful campaign at the Gothia Cup youth tournament in Sweden, Nyasa Times reports. Malawian diplomat and sports expert James Woods, who serves on the academy's senior team, stated that the tournament results will help establish formal club partnerships and long-term development pathways for young African players, including emerging talent from Malawi.
