Vivo Energy has signed a sale and purchase agreement to transfer its shareholding in Vivo Energy Malawi to Mount Meru Group, according to KT Press. The acquisition covers a network of over 50 service stations across Malawi, as well as commercial fuel and lubricant operations. Mount Meru Group, which originally entered the Malawian market in 2013, aims to use the transaction to expand its downstream fuel distribution presence in the country.
Update: The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi has officially switched on the country's first standalone utility-scale battery energy storage system, Channel Africa reports. The 20-megawatt facility, located in Lilongwe, began operations over the weekend to help stabilise a national power grid that relies heavily on hydroelectricity. Energy officials expect the storage system to support local businesses struggling with blackouts and protect the power supply against climate shocks, such as the El Nino weather pattern affecting water levels in the Shire River.
