Update: The ongoing dispute surrounding the Miss Malawi pageant's international representation has intensified, with major sponsors and public figures weighing in on the controversy. Following the decision to send first princess Ireen Navicha to the Miss World 2026 pageant instead of reigning queen Thandi Chisi, Goshen City has publicly distanced itself from the selection process. According to Malawi24, the organisation, which serves as the principal sponsor of Miss Malawi, stated that the decision was made entirely by the pageant's secretariat and board. Aubrey Kusakala, a spokesperson for Prophet Shepherd Bushiri's office, also issued a statement claiming that Chisi had been offered the opportunity to compete at Miss Universe but declined for personal reasons, Nyasa Times reports.

The pageant organisers are also facing severe public criticism over their handling of the selection rules. Social and political philosopher Mike Arnold Mbalale published an open letter accusing the Miss Malawi Organisation of "institutional fraud", according to Nyasa Times. Mbalale argued that the organisation changed its explanations regarding age eligibility to justify bypassing Chisi after she had already won the national crown.

Update: In another developing story within the arts sector, the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) is facing renewed scrutiny following its recent royalty distributions. According to Malawi24, a royalties row continues to deepen, with music executives accusing the organisation of mishandling funds meant for local artists. Alongside the financial disputes, COSOMA is dealing with a fresh public backlash over its visual identity, as critics have publicly questioned the design and professional quality of the organisation's logo.
