The Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust has launched a K180 million fundraising campaign for the 2026 uMhlangano Wa Maseko Ngoni cultural festival, according to Malawi24. Scheduled to run from August 31 to September 5 at the Gomani Chikuse Memorial Grounds in Ntcheu District, the week-long event will draw Ngoni delegates from Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, eSwatini, and Lesotho. Organisers are securing the funds through corporate partnerships, golf tournaments, and formal dinner events.
While the annual festival is rooted in preserving Ngoni traditions, trust secretary general Kandi Padambo stated it now serves as a platform to tackle modern social issues. According to AfricaBrief, this year's gathering will feature community campaigns to fight child marriages, school dropouts, and gender-based violence, alongside efforts to promote environmental conservation.
