Sovereign Metals Limited and Traxys North America have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding for Traxys to market and sell natural graphite from the Kasiya rutile-graphite project in Malawi, according to Nyasa Times. Nyasa Times reports the MOU was signed on the sidelines of the 2026 Mining Indaba in Cape Town and sets out indicative marketing volumes of about 40,000 tonnes per year initially, with a potential expansion to about 80,000 tonnes per year.

The arrangement is being linked to United States critical minerals sourcing efforts through Traxys’ reported participation in “Project Vault”, according to Sovereign Metals’ market announcement carried by Research Tree and a republished version carried by FinanzNachrichten. Nyasa Times reports the deal has also prompted questions locally about transparency and how long-term national benefits would be secured as the Kasiya project advances.
