Mlambe Mission Hospital in Blantyre is urging residents to undergo regular health checkups following a free surgical camp organized alongside the Islamic Health Association of Malawi, according to Nation Online. The campaign completed 112 successful surgeries by July 29, primarily treating hernias and hydroceles. Health officials cited poverty and delayed screening as major factors contributing to the high number of untreated conditions, noting that they aim to complete 150 surgeries by the end of the month.

In Neno, the region's first permanent dental clinic has opened at the Matandani Adventist Mission campus, the Adventist News Network reports. Established through a partnership between the Adventist Development and Relief Agency in Romania and ADRA Malawi, the clinic has already provided free oral healthcare to more than 170 patients. Alongside the new dental facility, the medical mission delivered food and hygiene supplies to over 2,200 residents and students in the surrounding communities.

Medical research is also expanding as the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Research Programme initiates new immunological studies targeting rotavirus and Shigella infections. According to an announcement from the research trust, the project will examine immune responses to identify signatures associated with protection and vaccine efficacy against diarrhoeal diseases in African populations.

Update: Following earlier coverage of the Ministry of Health rolling out a new injectable HIV drug, Malawian health officials presented their early deployment findings this week at the International AIDS Conference in Brazil. According to the O'Neill Institute, leaders from the Malawi National AIDS Commission showcased the PathToScale initiative, detailing how the long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis is being managed across 36 clinics in Blantyre and Lilongwe.
