According to Nation Online, the World Bank-funded Regional Climate Resilience Programme is investing over K590 million in infrastructure in Salima District to help communities adapt to climate change. The initiative includes K321 million for new classroom blocks at Chisogolo Primary School in Traditional Authority Kuluunda. Local community leaders hope the new facilities will encourage children to attend classes rather than fishing in nearby Lake Malawi. An additional K270 million will fund housing for agriculture extension officers at the Chiluwa Extension Planning Area, aiming to retain workers who support local farmers.
In a separate environmental development, Malawi is advancing its recovery from Cyclone Freddy by adopting clean energy solutions in displaced communities, according to fundsforNGOs News. Backed by the Joint SDG Fund and implemented by the International Organization for Migration and the UN Refugee Agency, the project has distributed energy-efficient cookstoves across relocation sites in Chikwawa and Chiradzulu. The stoves are designed to lower indoor air pollution and reduce firewood consumption, which helps limit deforestation. Furthermore, the initiative has installed a solar mini-grid in Champhanda to provide reliable electricity for dozens of rural households.
